Considering the environment

We have worked very hard to find an environmentally friendly solution for delivering our fresh products.

Boxes

The vast majority of deliveries will come in a recyclable cardboard box with a wool liner inside for insulation. For some very small or very large orders, polystyrene boxes may have to be used but we are working hard to source a more sustainable solution for these scenarios.

Wool insulation

This recyclable liner provides a more environmentally friendly form of insulation to keep the ice packs and meat cool.Wool is one of the most sustainable natural materials, being available in abundance as a by-product of rearing sheep. Wool is one of nature’s most amazing ‘smart fibres’, with a complex structure and natural properties that cope with extremes of cold and heat. Wool fibres are hygroscopic, which means they absorb and release moisture, a natural thermostat that maintains stable temperatures. The liners we use are made by Puffin Packaging. a company who have cleverly harnessed the smart fibre properties and sealing pure wool in a 100 % recyclable MDPE to create green insulation.

The wool insulation is totally compostable and biodegradable, releasing valuable nitrates back into the soil. The MDPE film used to enclose the wool fleece is recyclable at local authority waste depots. The cardboard delivery boxes are produced using recycled material and are recyclable at local authority waste depots. In most cases the box and wool packaging is suitable to be re-used several times. At the end of its useful life as packaging, the insulation liners or felted wool can be re-used for a variety of purposes.

EcoChill™ gel ice packs

To dispose of the gel, it is best to pour into the general waste bin and the outer plastic can be recycled. Either recycle with your local council or with a supermarket recycling point. EcoChill™ ice packs can be reused if they are in good condition. Simply refreeze. Once they show wear and tear, they should be disposed of.
