Our turkeys are not wild but do originate from the wild American turkey. They are farmed by by our neighbours Keith and Paula Southey of Bramfield to a very high welfare standard. They are fed on a local mills ration and a diet of rolled wheat, oats and barley which the small holder produces himself. The birds also forage on grass seed heads and berries from the hedgerow giving them a great taste.
The birds are reared slowly, the traditional way, and are completely free range. They are shut in at night to stop Mr Fox from getting his dinner!
Bronze, Blacks and the traditional white turkeys are all available at Christmas only. The Bronze and Black turkeys are slightly smaller and slower growing than the white turkeys and, as a result, are a little more expensive but the later maturity of these breeds does offer a richer flavour.
