New smoked fish on the website!

At The Wild Meat Co, it’s no secret that our passion and commitment is for wild game and locally-produced, ethically-farmed meats. However, we’ve come to recognise that, as an island nation, our surrounding seas are teeming with some of the finest and most sustainably-harvested seafood in Europe.

The sheer variety of fish and shellfish that are caught around our coasts, is inspiring enough, but when you couple that with the artisan skills of a local fishmonger, who sources seasonally and with absolute traceability, it’s truly a recipe for something really special.

To fully embrace the “Wild Food” concept and offer our customers a more responsible choice, we’ve teamed up with local purveyor of fine seafood, Chris Wightman of Maximus Sustainable Fish, who knows a thing or two about the job. He should do too, as he was at sea catching for 20 years and coming from a saltwater-in-the-blood, fishing family from Aldeburgh on the Suffolk coast, his profound knowledge of fish, shellfish and how and where to source them, has got us really excited.

At his smokehouse, just a couple of miles down the road from us at Wild Meat HQ, Chris has developed a simply stunning range of artisanally-smoked and eclectically-sourced fish. Now available to buy online from us are his renowned and award winning, coffee-cured Scottish smoked salmon and hot roasted smoked salmon, smoked Atlantic prawns and crevettes, mouthwatering Norwegian and seasonally-local kippers, naturally smoked MSC-accredited Scottish haddock from Peterhead and delicately flavoured, smoked cod’s roe.

All Chris’s products are selected, craft-smoked and packed by him ensuring total product care and believe us when we say, it all appears in the flavour!

It’s a natural progression for us really, complementing our entire range of game and locally produced meat. You could even say it’s the perfect Wild Food combination! We’ll be promoting our smoked fish and shellfish over the coming weeks and introducing the range to you, with some fabulous offers and selection packs. We’ll also provide you with all information you need on how to prepare, cook and enjoy these delicious fruits of the sea.
